Windows Timeline

My first introduction to computers was in the late 1970's and below is a brief description of each operating system I have encountered until the present day. Sit back and enjoy this nostalgic journey with me to which some even predates the introduction of Microsoft Windows.

ball graphic   1982 - Commodore DOS - made for Commodore's 8-bit computers
ball graphic   1984 - MSX-DOS - added 3½-inch floppy disk support by Microsoft and ASCII Corporation
ball graphic   1985 - Windows 1.0 - first major release of Microsoft Windows
ball graphic   1987 - Windows 2.0 - second major release of Microsoft Windows
ball graphic   1988 - DR-DOS - used for 8-bit Intel 8080 and Z-80-based systems
ball graphic   1990 - Windows 3.0 - third major release of Microsoft Windows
ball graphic   1992 - Windows 3.1 - operated as a shell on top of MS-DOS similar to Windows 3.0
ball graphic   1993 - Windows NT 3.1 - a revision of the OS/2 operating system used for workstations
ball graphic   1995 - Windows 95 - first version of Microsoft Windows to include the start button
ball graphic   1998 - Windows 98 - second operating system in the 9x line, it is the successor to Windows 95
ball graphic   1999 - Windows 98 SE - updated version of Windows 98
ball graphic   2000 - Windows 2000 - introduced NTFS 3.0, Encrypting File System
ball graphic   2000 - Windows Millennium Edition - 1st to with the ability to revert system files back to a prior date and time
ball graphic   2001 - Windows XP - improved performance and stability over previous version
ball graphic   2003 -Windows XP SP1 - contained upgrades and security patches
ball graphic   2004 - Windows XP SP2 - with enhanced features to the Wi-Fi networking user interface
ball graphic   2004 - OS/400 V4R5 - used for IBM AS/400 line of systems
ball graphic   2005 - Windows XP Professional x64 Edition - increase in the RAM capabilities
ball graphic   2006 - Windows Vista - major release of Microsoft's Windows NT operating system
ball graphic   2008 - Windows XP SP3 - contained updates to the operating system and Media Center Edition
ball graphic   2009 - Windows 7 - major release of the Windows NT operating system
ball graphic   2012 - Windows 8 - introduced major changes to the operating system's platform and user interface
ball graphic   2013 - Windows 8.1 - improved Start screen and additional bundled apps
ball graphic   2015 - Windows 10 - an updated start menu with the introduction of Cortana, a virtual assistant
ball graphic   2021 - Windows 11 - improved Task Manager and re-added the drag and drop feature on the taskbar
